Tanzania has imposed a ban on plastic bags since June 2019. This also affects travelers. Be careful not to bring plastic bags (except Ziplock bags) into the country.
Kilimanjaro gets fast Internet
Anyone who climbs Kilimanjaro and has a smartphone with them can now share their adventures on Africa’s highest mountain on Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and other Internet services: Tanzania has set up a broadband network on the slopes of Kilimanjaro at an altitude of 3,720 meters. Information Minister Nape Nnauye described the development as historic. Tourists would benefit as well as the safety of climbers and mountain guides, he explained at Horombo Huts, one of the camps on the way to the summit. By the end of the year, the summit of the 5,895-meter-high mountain will also be equipped with an internet connection, he added.

At the beginning of 2023 I flew to Tanzania for the first time because, in addition to visiting my orphanage project, I also really wanted to get to know the country and its people. So right at the beginning of my trip I ended up in the Kilimanjaro region, where I spent my first week on Tanzinian soil near Boma N’gombe.
Together with Richie and from PAKA PORI Adventures & Safaris (which have their home place there and know the most beautiful places in the Kilimanjaro region) I drove to one of the most suggested places, Chemka Hotsprings, also known as Kikuletwa Hotsprings or Maji Moto. We spent almost a whole day there. I found paradise in the middle of nowhere, nestled in palm and fig trees and huge cactus trees. It’s not an exaggeration when I write this. The entrance fee for non-Tanzians is still very cheap. You can spend the whole day there. The breathtaking fauna and flora is reflected in audible and partly visible birds, small species of monkeys, lizards and extraordinary plants. The mild temperature of the water invites everyone to become a “water rat”. Predominantly crystal-clear water with underground, fed warm springs and small „nibbler fish“ actually make Chemka seem like a place of paradise. For me, after a trip of several weeks via Kigoma, Dodoma, Arusha (with a six-day tent safari in the Serengeti) and the onward journey to Dar es Saalem, I was there again and got rid of calluses inexpensively with the nibble fish. If you pay a lot of money for such a “cure” in Western and Asian countries, you get the wellness offer in Chemka virtually free of charge.
The visit to Chemka Hot Springs will remain in my memory forever and I will always be happy to return here to really relax and to let my soul unwind. This place is a gem… So take a day on your trip, let PAKA PORI and a Bajaji (tuktuk) take you there and look forward to a true paradise as well as warm people and family care from Richie. I want to say “ thank you again“ to both for the wonderful and valuable time together.

My wish was to get to know Africa. I was particularly drawn to Tanzania.
Because I had zero clues and no preparation, I looked for the right supporters. I found what I was looking for… with the Katl Richie. For me it all came together as a whole, because Richie comes from Tanzania, Katl loves her homeland and both of them handled the organizational aspects perfectly. From the beginning I had a warm familiarity with both of them.
The extraordinary thing was, that my wishes only emerged on site. After I expressed this, Richie, Katl and I together with the guide team, quickly set about making my wishes come true. And today I am grateful that I was able to get to know the fascinating wildlife on a safari, climbed Kilimanjaro and, last but not least, was able to experience the beautiful island of Zanzibar. For me it was not just a trip as an ordinary tourist, but because of the proximity of both to the country and its people, I was able to experience the real Tanzania in its purest and most original form. This journey to the country and to myself will accompany me for the rest of my life.
